First of all I would like to thank each and every one of you for remaining patient, as it has been a while since my last chapter newsletter. That being said, I would like to present you all with a copy of my next newsletter, the first of what will hopefully be many to come during this fall semester. This newsletter will bring you up to speed with how our spring semester ended and will brief you on what to expect during this fall semester.
This past week, starting on Tuesday at 9:00am, the chapter made its first fundraising effort for PUSH America since last semester. “The Campout on the Quad,” as it was named, was an EC-developed idea where the chapter would have at least 3 brothers out on the quad at all times asking for donations, which would not end until $5000.00 was raised. There were brothers on the quad at all hours of the day from Tuesday morning until Saturday afternoon, with brothers sleeping in tents between the Foreign Language Building and Davenport Hall, and the goal was finally reached. Several news organizations came and interviewed brothers during the weeklong campout, and there was a news plug on the radio as well as a story on Channel 3 WCIA’s Champaign Local News. Needless to say, chapter morale was lifted in the process, and because of the weeklong effort at raising money, we are excited for an increased recruitment push, better sorority relations, improved brotherhood in the chapter!! and above all, a higher dedication to helping out the disabled through PUSH America.
Important dates for the fall semester here at Upsilon are Dad’s Day Weekend, which is during the weekend of October 5-7. Following that, we have Homecoming Weekend, which you all are cordially invited to, which falls on the weekend of October 26-28. We look forward to seeing each and every one of you here. The schedule for the day of October 27 is as follows.
Saturday, October 27, 2007
Game time 11am
Meet at house between 9 and 10:30am
Housing Corp. meeting 3pm
BBQ 5pm
All the rooms are filled here at the house currently, and we look forward to having more brothers move in as our Epsilon Class comes together in these next few weeks. We recently purchased a new pool table for the chapter room, which came with a pub table and two bar stools. We also had 5 brothers ride in a U-Haul truck across the country to pick up 2 arcade video games and a couch that Mike Lowery Y896 donated to the house. The chapter is thriving here at Upsilon, and we would like to invite all of you to come down to Champaign at any time over the course of this year to see how well we’re doing. Let us know in advance and if you’d like to stay at the house, and we’ll work something out. We always enjoy hearing from you guys and are always willing to accommodate an alumni visit.
So, without further ado, please read and enjoy my newsletter. I’d appreciate hearing any questions, comments, concerns, or general feedback. It’s always nice hearing from you guys. Stay tuned, as I will be updating you guys with how our recruitment is going and with any and all breaking news here at Upsilon. You’ll be hearing from me soon.
